Acer TravelMate Laptop Charger problem
I have a problem with my laptop and I’m trying to determine if it’s an issue with the battery or with the charger. I installed Windows 7 a month ago and noticed a warning that read “Please replace your battery”. A quick search on the net didn’t reveal too much, but I figured that as long as I didn’t rely on the battery(always kept it plugged in), I’d be fine.
I didn’t have a problem 3 weeks into installing Windows 7, but last week, I noticed that the laptop/charger was behaving strangely. If I started the laptop plugged in, 10 minutes later, the screen would start flickering(indicating that the system was repeatedly switching between plugged-in and battery power profiles) and after 10 seconds of this, it would go to the battery power profile and remain that way. The AC power indicator switches off and I get a “plugged in, not charging” notification. When I check the power indicator light on the charger, it is off.
Initially, I believed this to be an issue with the charger, but I’m not sure anymore and I don’t want buy both a new charger as well as a new battery. I have the system with me today if anyone wants to check it out.
